- Much of Lakeview was devastated by flooding following Hurricane Katrina in August 2005. Since then, Lakeview has sprung back to life with home renovations and the opening of new businesses.
- There are plenty of homes available in Lakeview. These include newly renovated properties as well as those still waiting rebuilding.
- The majority of Lakeview residential properties are single family homes. There are some multi-family sales on occasion, and you can find some great condos on the Lakefront.
- The University of New Orleans is on the Lakefront.
- Prior to Katrina, Lakeview was one of the most popular residential neighborhoods in the Metro New Orleans area. It promises to regain that popularity as time goes by.
Fun Facts
- The New Orleans City Planning Commission defines the boundaries of Lakeview as Robert E Lee Boulevard to the north, Orleans Avenue to the east, Florida Boulevard, Canal Boulevard and Interstate 610 to the south and Pontchartrain Boulevard to the west.
- However, many consider Lake Pontchartrain the northern border of Lakeview.
- Through much of the 20th century, the Lakeview area was mostly undeveloped swamp.
- Large scale residential development began just after World War II. Most homes were small bungalows, built by middle class residents.
- In the last decades of the 1900s, more upscale homes were built in Lakeview, especially close to the lakefront.
