Fun Facts
- The earliest known settlement by Europeans in the Covington area occurred around 1800.
- The city was renamed after General Leonard Covington, a hero of the War of 1812.
- In the 1800s, much of the commerce in Covington came from up and down the Bogue Falaya River.
- During the second part of the 1900s, Covington became a popular bedroom community for workers in New Orleans. This was made possible by construction of the 24 mile long Lake Pontchartrain Causeway, which connects the North Shore to Metairie.
