What We Love:

The History

Believe it or not, Terrytown is one of the newest communities in the New Orleans metro area. Established in 1960, Terrytown was named after developer Paul Kapelow's daughter, Terry. Since its inception, this suburb has been on the cutting edge of all the latest building innovations. In fact, the area's original homes had all of their plumbing in one wall!

The Culture

While Terrytown might not have the same lengthy history as NOLA's other suburbs, its diverse culture certainly makes it stand out! Here, you'll find plenty of French, Cajun, Creole, and African American influences, as well as culturally-significant architecture and art. Be sure to check out all of the attractions on Terry Parkway and Carol Sue Avenue to experience the best of the area.

The Neighborhoods

Terrytown is sometimes considered a neighborhood instead of a town, but its substantial growth over the last few years has made it a destination of its own. Tucked between Algiers and Gretna, this tight-knit community features smaller neighborhoods like Diana, the F Section, Garden Estates, Garden Park, and the Stumpf and A, B, C Sections.

The Location

So many buyers have fallen in love with Terrytown's location, and we can't say that we blame them. You'll be just 13 minutes away from the center of New Orleans, and you can reach the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport in less than a half hour. It's easy to get to the West Bank Expressway, too—just take Terry Parkway north towards NOLA!

Terrytown's number one shopping spot has to be Oakwood Center. This retail destination has attracted shoppers from all across the New Orleans Metro Area since 1966, and it offers more than just a few of your favorite stores.

Today, Oakwood Center is home to Bath & Body Works, Dick's, Forever 21, and many other prominent retailers. Don't forget to check out the mall's famous Cafe du Monde, too!

Dining

So many people come to Louisiana just to try our food. And when you live in Terrytown, you'll have access to some of the most authentic restaurants in all of New Orleans!

Locals always recommend Dimartino's, a locally-owned chain that specializes in muffulettas, po' boys, burgers, and plenty of other Big Easy favorites. Other favorite spots include A Taste of Thailand, Los Panchos Mexican Restaurant, and Fuji Hana Sushi Bar and Hibachi Steakhouse.
