Fun Facts
- Kenner was founded in 1855 by Minor Kenner on land that contained three plantations owned by his family.
- At the time of Kenner's founding, all land north of what is now Airline Highway was marsh.
- During the early 1900s, a streetcar line connected Canal Street in New Orleans to the intersection of Williams Boulevard and Jefferson Highway in Kenner.
- In the early 1960s, Kenner had a population of under 20,000. During the 1950s, developers drained and filled swampland in North Kenner, and in the 1960s Interstate 10 was constructed. This lead to the rapid growth of Kenner to the 6th largest city in Louisiana.
- In 2000, Kenner was home to just over 70,000 residents.
